According to the NPD group, Apple’s iPhone 3G is the best sold phone in the United States, passing the Motorola Razr V3 that used to be #1 for three years in a row.
The NPD also notes that the average amount of sold mobile devices is 10% less, compared to the same period last year. The average price of mobile devices has increased with 6%.

According to Gizmondo, the latest iPhone firmware 2.1 has fixed a significant amount of issue but still has issues with 3G speeds. I’ve yet to update mine so unable to give my on opinions on the new update but would definitely agree with the lag issue during SMS writing which is a pain sometimes! (firmware 2.0)

Just on Tuesday, Apple announced the latest firmware update version 2.1 and now its out. Looks like the backup procedure has be improved, hurray! hopefully I won’t have to wait an hour or so for my backups to complete.

Updates
- Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls
- Significantly better battery life for most users
- Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
- Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
- Faster installation of 3rd party applications
- Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications
- Improved performance in text messaging
- Faster loading and searching of contacts
- Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display

If true, its another update for iPhone, I hope we get some improvements for the application backup procedure. As at the moment it takes ages!!! I think it should only backup the application data and not the actual application, we can download the app anytime we want, so no need backing up.

The update is meant to include new GPS-related functionality (iPhone 3G) for tracking speed and direction while excluding some features for developers. (oh and not forgetting iTunes 8 is getting an update is well.)
