IBM has plans to purchase Sun Microsystems

IBM has plans to purchase Sun Microsystems, and is talking with them to make a deal. They are willing to pay at least $6.5 billion in cash to Sun, if the deal goed through. And that might even happen as early as this week.

    Looks like IBM is about to do a round of layoffs. This could be rough for Sun employees.

    I can predict the upcoming headlines: “Open-Source, Java and Solaris go Commercial” :D

    Hopefully they won’t get too much power, otherwise we’ll have a new product: IBM® Linux™
